Alysa Wakefield
Alysa is a third-year Bachelor of Design & Visual Arts student at Unitec, majoring in Photography.
She says “I have a passion for design and am always dabbling in pet projects. With notebooks galore of other strange & wonderful ideas, I love to create new inventions and am always scheming and dreaming.
“I stumbled upon Idea Nation by chance and was excited about having another outlet for coming up with something new and interesting, and with fingers crossed something actually useful! It’s good to get some ideas out of the notebooks and into the real world, even if it’s to kick start another train of thought that leads to something even more useful and amazing.”
The idea:
The Skirting-board Stepper is a design for a retractable step hidden under the skirting board which prevents falls by providing a step-ladder right at the time it’s needed.
The judges said “We liked this idea because it was a simple, yet effective design that could be used for any room with high cupboards or shelves and it doesn’t rely on the user making an effort to go and get a step ladder or a stool. We think it could be built into new homes or included during renovations. It could also be used in workplaces.”
